Metempsychosis—Two Poems

‘Metempsychosis’ is a print re-publication of two writings by the American poet Jane Hirschfield.
“The title first: Metempsychosis is the transmigration of the psyche or the soul. It can be a synonym for reincarnation, though metempsychosis often implies the notion of re-embodiment in any form, not just another human body. It is the liberation of the self from the confines of a single embodiment.
And this poem seems to consider this idea from several different angles.”
— Ivan M. Granger
With metempsychosis being a concept of Greek origin, this work is as much a study of the Greek alphabet as it is an appreciation of Hirschfield’s poetry.
Visual studies, from Alpha to Omega, are threaded through the publication, and each study is a composition where mathematical noise permutates source material, echoing concepts within the writing.
